Hawaii craftsman Suzi is an ardent follower of Hawaiian culture and artifacts. He applies her passion for Hawaiiana to create a ceramic art form. Each vessel is hand-shaped with clay. Then, glazed and high-fired. Suzi applies natural earthen colored dyes to her pottery to reflect the deep red colors of Hawaii’s rich lava soil. The carvings are inspired by Hawaiian tribal tattoos and petroglyphs.
Suzi never uses a potter’s wheel to shape her vessels. The symmetry of her sculptures comes from Suzi’s meticulous craftsmanship. Suzi works in her Honolulu home studio and finds inspiration exploring the Koolau mountains and surfing.
