Our Hawaii craftsmen designed and created the Halstead Marquetry Table by using our private stock of curly Koa. Each Halstead Table has a unique sunburst pattern made with slices of highly-figured Koa wood. Our master craftsman Mel lathe-turned the Koa pedestals for each of these striking tables. We use our signature “manapua feet” at the bottom of the table, reflecting the cross-cultural richness that makes Hawaii a special paradise on Earth. Each manapua foot is lathe-turned from solid Koa, in the exact form of this delectable, savory treat sold throughout Hawaii today.
Our Halstead Table is named in honor of pioneer sugar planter and own of the Waialua plantation on Oahu, Robert Halstead. He was one of the first men with the vision to realize the importance of sugar cane in the financial development of Hawaii. Originally from Yorkshire England, Mr. Halstead first settled in Lahaina, Maui, where he spent seven years as plantation manager for James Campbell, one of the prominent figures in the early history of the sugar industry. In 1874, Halstead started his own sugar plantation in Waialua, on Oahu.
